Belmont Savings Announces Power-Up Savings Winners

Posted on May 14th, 2014 at 2:49 PM

BELMONT - Belmont Saving Bank recently announced the winners of its Power-â€Up Savings contest. Previously, fans of the Bank’s social media pages were given an opportunity to win $500 by sharing a photo of something they were saving money to obtain. Twenty-â€five people entered the contest with admirable savings  goals.

After “liking” the Bank’s Facebook page (or following them  on Twitter),  contestants entered by posting their submission on the Bank’s Facebook page and Twitter account. Contestants then encouraged their friends to “like” and “retweet” the entry. The top most “liked” or “retweeted” photo was named the winner.

The winner for the PowerBlue Savings Facebook and Twitter contest is Tom Strachan, who will use his prize money a trip to Munich for Oktoberfest. Tom is currently a student at Bentley University, where he majors in finance. He is a member of the football team and plays defensive end. He is a 2010 graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School.

Based off the many worthy causes submitted for the contest, Belmont Savings decided to support funding for several additional entries with unique and laudable missions. The additional recipients are Molly Greeley and Laura Carter.

Molly Greeley will use her winnings to save for college. Molly is attending Curry College, where she majors in special education. She currently lives in Waltham.

Laura Carter is saving for a water tank to donate to the Uganda Water Project, a non-â€profit humanitarian organization that works to provide safe accessible drinking water in Uganda. The Ugandan Water Project will receive Laura’s full prize, and will contribute to the next water tank the organization purchases. Laura resides in Waltham.

Both Molly and Laura received $250 for their causes.

The social media competition was held throughout the month of April, which was National Financial Literacy Month.
