Belmont Savings Bank awards $5,000 to The Second Step
BELMONT, March 12, 2014 - Belmont Savings Bank Foundation today announced it has given a $5,000 grant to The Second Step to purchase new computers to help in its efforts combating domestic violence. In addition to the grant, contributing to the purchase of new computers for The Second Step, Belmont Savings employees have made the organization one of its top volunteer activities for 2014.
“We understand non-â€profit organizations like Second Step are indispensable to addressing domestic violence and helping its victims builds healthier lives,” said Bob Mahoney, chairman of Belmont Savings Bank Foundation. “Our foundation is proud to invest in an organization that provides true, life-â€changing, comprehensive services.”
The Second Step fosters the ongoing safety, stability, and well-â€being of survivors of domestic violence. Their residential and community-â€based programs serve more than 250 adults and 400 children and provide transitional housing for up to 30 families each year.
Recently, several colleagues from Belmont Savings Bank, including members of its Newton branch team, will be on hand restoring The Second Step’s computer room, which will now be known as The Belmont Savings Bank Foundation Computer Center. New computers will be added, and Bank colleagues will paint the room.
“Domestic violence is an issue that takes all levels of involvement from the community,” said Sarah Perry, executive director for The Second Step. “Belmont Savings Bank should be commended for stepping up and making this critical issue a priority. We deeply appreciate their generous support and hands-â€on engagement.”
