“We are thrilled to support the resurfacing of the Belmont High School varsity court, which will have a direct impact on our town’s wonderful student-athletes,” said Robert J. Morrissey, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Belmont Savings Bank as well as the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation. “With important contributions like these, our Foundation fulfills its mission of supporting local organizations which are providing high-quality services to our communities.”
In early spring, the Foundation was the first to contribute to the fundraising efforts for resurfacing of the Belmont High School varsity basketball/volleyball court. Specifically, the Foundation committed to contributing $35,000 which when matched fully funded the amount needed to complete the project.
During the ground breaking, John Carson, chairman of the fundraising committee, commented, “The decades of use by thousands of students and residents had deteriorated surface so much to make it dangerous. Without the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation leadership, we could not have accomplished what we have in such a short period of time. Now thousands for the future will enjoy a great surface to play on.”
Belmont Youth Basketball Association (BYBA) contributed the $35,000 matching grant from the Foundation. Due to the extraordinary interest, from parents, alumni, many local businesses and the Belmont Boosters $15,000 contribution, the additional surface surrounding the court is going to be completed as well. To complete the overall project, the Town of Belmont allocated $100,000 to resurface the JV (junior varsity) court next summer.
The mission of the Foundation is to provide financial support to organizations in the communities served by Belmont Savings Bank, particularly those committed towards education, health and human services, youth programs, and affordable housing.
