NEWTON - The Belmont Savings Bank Foundation today announced a $30,000 community grant initiative as part of its charitable giving initiative in Newton. Local residents will nominate charities that will then be eligible for a donation based on voting.

After a nomination and voting period, the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation will invest in five programs located in Newton. Applications should include efforts for health, education, affordable housing or youth programs. The nomination deadline is October 1, 2015 at 5 p.m.

Following October 5, all approved organizations will have a 25-â€day period to drive voting which will take place  on  the  Foundation website.

“Through this charitable giving initiative, we are pleased to be offering Newton residents with the chance to vote for and recognize many of the wonderful local organizations,” said Robert Morrissey, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Belmont Savings Bank as well as the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation. “This initiative reflects the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation’s mission to invest in building communities and we encourage residents to vote for the groups they feel make the greatest impact in their neighborhood.”

Subsequently, eligible groups can encourage supporters that live in Newton to vote once per device on the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation website from October 5th -â€30th, choosing their preferred recipient.
