Belmont Savings Foundation announces Waltham Charitable Giving Program Winners

WALTHAM – The Belmont Savings Bank Foundation today announced the winners of a $30,000
grant program for its charitable giving initiative in Waltham. All organizations on the voting ballot
were invited to a reception held at the Waltham Westin on June 9th from 6-7:30pm.

The top five charitable organizations were:

  • 1st place – MacArthur Elementary School PTO, who will use their $10,000 prize for the
    upgrade and expansion of their playground
  • 2nd place – Kennedy Middle School PTO, who will use their $8,000 prize for an 8th grade
    trip to Washington, DC
  • 3rd place – Plympton School PTO , who will use their $6,000 prize for their Health and
    Wellness Council programming
  • 4th place – Waltham Boys and Girls Club , who will use their $4,000 prize for the launch of
    World Arts
  • 5th place – Waltham Land Trust, who will use their $2,000 prize for the Western Greenway Project 

During the initial round, nominated Waltham charitable organizations had until April 22 to submit
an application with an explanation of how it would use the funds. Then, eligible groups encouraged
supporters living in Waltham to vote, choosing their preferred recipient on the Belmont Savings
Bank Foundation website. After 25 days, votes were tallied to identify the top five charitable
organizations. In total, over 2,600 votes were counted.

The remaining local charities were presented with a $500 grant, as well. Those recipients are:

  • Healthy Waltham
  • Greater Waltham ARC
  • Watch CDC
  • Waltham YMCA
  • More Than Words
  • Middlesex Human Service Agency Inc
  • Salvation Army Waltham Corps
  • Neighbors Who Care
  • Reach Beyond Domestic Violence
  • Junior Achievement of Northern New England

The role of the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation is to support not-for-profit groups, institutions,
schools and other organizations as a way of adding to the quality of life for people living in the
communities in which Belmont Savings Bank serves. Since 2012, the Foundation has contributed
over $700,000 to local groups in the Greater Boston area.
