Belmont Savings Foundation Distributes over $35k to 10 Non-­profits to Meet Community Needs

April 10, 2014 - Belmont Savings Bank Foundation recently announced that its Board of Directors has approved the distribution of over $35,000 to 10 local non-­profit organizations working to improve the lives of Massachusetts residents.

“The mission of the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation is to provide financial support to not-­â€for-­â€profit organizations in the communities we serve,” said Robert J. Morrissey, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Belmont Savings Bank as well as the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation. “We are very excited about these grants and the impact the organizations will have with the funds.”

Grant recipients include:

  • Friends of Belmont P.O.R.T. -­â€ For Special Olympics registration fees for both athletes and unified partners.
  • Friends of Belmont Wrestling – To be a sponsor of the 2014 Scholarship & Brendan Grant Memorial Wrestling Tournament.
  • Belmont Women's Club – For emergency cupola restoration of the Homer House, a historic landmark in Belmont Center.
  • Caritas Communities – For affordable housing programs in Cambridge. Funds are used for general operations in housing for low and extremely low income
  • Jackson Walnut Park Schools – To fund the Museum of Science Travelling Program to over 300
  • Springwell – For their money management program to assist seniors and individuals with disabilities with organizing bills, providing guidance on financial scams, learning budgeting skills, and relieving anxiety over financial matters.
  • Hosmer Elementary School PTO – To support their annual science

“Having a Foundation really allows us to impact local community organizations," said Bob Mahoney, President and CEO of Belmont Savings Bank and an officer on the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation. “This is a very worthy group of recipients in Belmont, Cambridge, Newton, Watertown, and Waltham."

Waltham YMCA will receive $10,000 towards their annual fund campaign that provides financial assistance to more than 600 low-­â€income individuals. Specifically, the grant will enable children and families to attend high quality YMCA programs such as teen leaders club, summer day camp, preschool and licensed after school care, and aquatics.

As part of the grant distribution, Newton Schools Foundation, Inc. will receive $10,000 to invest in its Innovation Campaign & Celebration of Excellence program. The Guild for Human Services will also receive $5,000 to support their REAL Fund, which offers fun learning opportunities for students with complex special needs.

Since 2012, the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation has given over $200,000 to non-­â€profits and educational institutions in Belmont, Watertown, Waltham, Newton and Cambridge.
